About Slaton

Slate has wanted to start a blog forever it seems.  Today,  I finally gave in....so here is a blog about Slate's World by Slate and narrated a bit by me, his mom.

Slaton is seven and serves with us in Nicaragua.  He has Aspergers and tends to look at the world a bit differently than the rest of us.  He has opened our eyes to look differently and to be okay with that.  He is homeschooled.  We tried a formal classroom setting but Slate was spending more time trying to "learn" the rules of the classroom than what was actually being taught.  After hearing time and time again that he does so much better one on one, we decided to take the plunge and try to homeschool.

Homeschooling was on my top five things that I did not want to do in this world.  (I think I have now crossed off everything on that list!)  However after the first week, I saw Slaton begin to become excited about learning again.  I saw his confidence soar as he realized that he wasn't "stupid or a failure" but was just different and truthfully we are all different, yes?  Just some of our differences are less out in the open than others.

Slate has added so much to our world and continues to cause us to reach to higher levels of ourselves.  He is a hands-on, active boy that is wise beyond his years yet struggles with typical idioms.

I hope you enjoy Slate's World.  He is full of daily what we call Slatonisms that we will add here as we go.

My Name is Slaton.

I want to start a blog because I just want to.  I am a missionary in Nicaragua.  I work and tell people about Jesus.  Sometimes, I love eating Nachos and playing outside.

I am in the United States right now because my pappa died.  I miss him but know he is in heaven with my sister and Nanna.

I have parents Travis and Tammy.  I have a brothers Devon and Antonio.  My sister is in heaven.

I also have a dog Buster whom I love!  I love Nicaragua because you can speak Spanish there. Everyone speaks English here. I like to speak Spanish.
